Helping a goat beat a murder rap wasn’t on my Maine bingo card, but here we are.
After burning my career to the ground, I fled my home on the South Carolina coast for a job at a petting zoo in Moose Ridge, Maine. I’d hoped to make some new friends in New England, but so far, my only besties are an opinionated moose named Clarise and a music-obsessed feline named Dolly Purrton.
Then, on my first day, a zoo guest turns up face-down in a livestock pen, and Gerald the goat is accused of murder.
The owner is ready to send Gerald straight to the slaughterhouse. My co-workers think I’ve lost my mind when I agree to help Dolly and Clarise make sure the goat gets a fair trial. My brother thinks I should forget Maine and come home.
But returning to my old life isn’t an option, and I’m not ready to give up on building a new one in Maine. Especially when failure means Gerald winds up as kebob.
Now I have to find a killer, help a goat develop an alibi, and figure out if Moose Ridge might be the one place I belong.
Helping find Miss Winter Wonderland’s killer wasn’t in my holiday plans.
After surviving my first month at the Moose Ridge Petting Zoo — including helping a goat beat a murder rap — I thought the annual Winter Wonderland Fundraiser would be the easy part. Then the reigning pageant queen’s term was cut short, and I made the mistake of showing the authorities a vital piece of social media evidence.
They brushed me off. Then they named me as a suspect. Now I’m my own best defendant, using the same social media skills that burned my old life to the ground to prove my innocence.
My animal friends Clarice the moose and an orange cat named Dolly Purrton are helping in their own way, which I can neither explain nor discourage. My brother thinks I should come home. My co-workers aren’t sure what to think.
And if I can’t find the real killer before the event falls apart, the petting zoo loses the funding that keeps its doors open. No pressure.
Proving I’m not a murderer was easy. Can I do the same for my new boyfriend?
When the Moose Ridge Invitational Fishing Tournament rolls into town, my only goal is to get some content for the petting zoo’s social media. Then the tournament judge, the same man my boyfriend very publicly argued with the night before, turns up dead in the river.
The evidence is pointing straight at someone I’ve come to care about. Now I have to decide how far I’m willing to go to prove that Moose Ridge’s most eligible bachelor isn’t a killer while finding out who is.
My animal friends Clarice the moose and an orange cat named Dolly Purrton have opinions. My brother keeps threatening to drag me home to South Carolina. My co-workers have just started to accept me.
But if I can’t solve this mystery, I could blow up my new life bigger than I did the old one.
