Do you love candy canes as much as I do? One of my favorite parts of Christmas was swiping candy canes from the tree and enjoying them as I worked on my next book, watched Hallmark movies, or scrolled through my Facebook news feed on my phone.
This is my first Christmas since being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. The best way to avoid the temptation of devouring boxes of candy canes was simple. I didn’t buy any. That’s right — my tree is sorely lacking in candy canes. Someone told me about some sugar-free candy canes, but I resisted.
Instead, I wrote a romance novelette that features my favorite holiday candy! Paul and Courtney decide to take a break over the holidays. A sweet message Paul receives from a kindly stranger changes their mind.
The book also features a Pomeranian named Abby. This is in memory of my friend Heather’s dog who went “over the Rainbow Bridge” shortly before the holidays. Abby was the sweetest little pom-puppy, and she’s missed greatly by all her family. I’ll definitely miss seeing the pics of her on my friend’s Facebook page, and I’ll also miss hearing stories about her adorable antics with her fellow pet siblings.
It also took me back to 2013 when I lost my sweet Gingerbelle. Although I haven’t put her in a book (yet), I have featured a golden retriever named Harvey Wallbanger, who appears in THE POSTMAN ALWAYS DIES TWICE, my cozy mystery work-in-progress.
