Canada, Bouchercon, and NaNoWriMo

Two years ago I had the idea to write a cozy mystery. I love the idea of this book so much. Set in the fictional town of Treasure Pines, North Carolina, THE POSTMAN ALWAYS DIES TWICE is a tale of poorly kept secrets and small-town gossip gone horribly wrong.

But then I got caught up in the First Street Church inspirational romance series for Kindle Worlds. What the heck? I said I would never write a romance. LOVE’S SILVER LINING is now available and, from the reviews and other feedback, is a well-loved addition to the series. The rough draft for LOVE’S SERENADE is more than halfway completed and I’m on track to include LOVE’S BABE IN A MANGER in the November 27th Christmas launch.

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to attend Bouchercon, the world’s biggest mystery convention. This year it took place in Toronto, Canada and boasted authors and readers from around the globe. In addition to attending many of the panels – where I learned tons about writing mysteries, I met countless authors and readers.

In addition to attending many of the panels – where I learned tons about writing mysteries, I met countless authors and readers. One reader spotted me in the washroom (which is what Canadians call the bathroom) and gave me an enthusiastic greeting that included raising her hand in the air and waving it around. It was an amusing experience that I wasn’t expecting at all.

With all this talk about murder, coastal settings, and psychopaths, how could I not get inspired to travel back to Treasure Pines?

So this NaNoWriMo that’s what I’ll be doing. Yarr!
